What do you focus on at B Capital?
I am an Executive Assistant for two General Partners on the investment team and the Office Manager for the San Francisco office. Outside of my primary job function I also help manage two of our newly founded affinity programs: B Capital’s Giveback Program and B Capital Women’s Group. B Capital’s Giveback Program allows the team to engage in two ways; through our matching program, where employees can donate to their favorite charities with a match by the firm, and through our skilled-based projects that each office works on as a team. B Capital’s Women Group is an affinity group inclusive to all employees but focuses on celebrating female empowerment through engaging conversations via fireside chats with women of influence. Both programs mean a lot to me and I am excited to see them continue to gain traction over the next year.
What attracted you to working at B Capital?
I wanted to be with an organization that was quickly growing and valued my input, because I enjoy working with leadership and helping to create new process and procedures for our teams. B Capital Group was the right fit for this, as I was the first EA in the SF office and able to help pave the path for other EAs joining the firm, as well as helping to drive our day-to-day office culture. Once I met the team, I knew I had made the right choice because everyone is so hard working, but down-to-earth, and enjoys having a good time.
If you were not in this career, what would you be doing?
I went to school for graphic design and photography, specifically print design. If I had not moved into the financial sector, I would most likely still be a designer by trade. If money were not a factor for my liveliness, I would spend my time traveling the world and photographing bathrooms for a well-designed and slightly hilarious coffee-table book, simply titled, “Bathrooms of the World.”
What is most interesting or unique about working in venture capital?
I am a curious person by nature and love seeing our team learn about so many new companies. It inspires me to be more curious in my life and continue to learn whenever possible. One of the unique things about our firm is our Platform team and how they help grow and support the companies we invest in. Not only do we provide these organizations with the financial lift they need to get to their next level, but our Platform team helps them get there through a deep understanding of their needs and partnership to help them achieve their goals.
If you were to become an investor in one of B Capital’s sectors or sub-sector targets, which would you choose?
While I find all the areas we invest in very interesting, I am most fascinated with fintech and what is happening in the sector. As digital platforms continue to take over the way we use money and make payments, fintech companies are paving way for these platforms. Growth is fierce and fast, so it seems like a very exciting sector to be an investor in these days.
What is something many people may not know about you?
I love all things Kombucha, especially hard Kombucha. Over the past two years I have really gotten into understanding and tasting as many types as possible (but not all in one night). June Shine is one of my favorite breweries and I recently had the chance to enjoy some of their flavors (not found in stores) at their San Diego tasting room. Outside of June Shine, my favorite hard Kombucha is Gold Vibe’s Moonlight Mojito, if you see it on the shelf, try it!
