1. What do you focus on at B Capital?

I am part of the Finance team at B Capital, heading up the Asia Pacific finance function. My key focus includes tax optimization, treasury management and investment services. My team supports various stakeholders to evaluate the valuation, monitor fund or operational compliance and co-ordinate financial due diligence during the acquisition/divestment process within Asia.

2. What attracted you to working at B Capital? 

Venture investment is a passion given the transformative power of technology. This is key to a brighter future. Having said that, finding the right role in the right firm is always hard to come by. When B Capital offered me the role to spearhead the finance function in the Asia team, I knew it was the right fit. I joined the firm during Covid and witnessed how the firm offered support and assistance to family and friends of our portfolio companies and local communities we operate in. Witnessing such goodwill gestures from the founders and senior leadership team left a deep footprint and strengthened my conviction about the company.

3. If you weren’t in this career, what would you be doing? 

I’d like to spend more time with my daughter in her growing up years! I have a 9-year-old who is very smart but gives up easily. I hope to change her perspective through sports by instilling sportsmanship and a determination mindset to weather the many storms she may face in life.

On the professional front, I like the start-up ecosystem in helping entrepreneurs raise funds and establish operations. Having worked in the fund management sector for the past 15 years, I understand the underwriting process and can leverage on the network within the buy-side universe, connecting founders accordingly.

4. What is something someone might not know about non-investing roles at a VC firm?

In B Capital, everyone has the same vision which is to create value for both our investors and our portfolio companies. Regardless of background or team function, the aim is to work together as a team to deliver the results and find solutions to the problems. Everyone has a role to play in the ecosystem and that is the beauty of working in this industry.

5. What’s something many people may not know about you? 

Both my wife and I love travelling. One of the most memorable trips was a four month stay in Yellowstone National Park (“YNP”) right after college. We joined a Work and Travel program which allowed us to work in YNP and have 3-week road trips in the West Coast after our work stint. The stay in Yellowstone was a pure adventure with lots of wildlife encounters. I am particularly fascinated with the uniqueness of each village and fully embraced the beauty of God’s creation in YNP.
