Raven Tan is our Deputy Director, IT based in Singapore. He joined B Capital due to its startup agility. Technology is a manifestation of all types of creation, which is why he is interested in this space.
1. What do you focus on at B Capital?
My main focus is around global IT operations, making sure our teams have access to high quality, frictionless service and technical support.
2. What attracted you to working at B Capital?
Coming from a traditional enterprise, B Capital’s ‘startup’ agility fascinates me. All IT services are 100% cloud based which enables our global team to be mobile.
3. If you weren’t in this career, what would you be doing?
It would still be something in technology. My passion is tinkering and creating. Technology allows the manifestation of any type of creation.
4. How have you seen technology innovation impact your function or field?
The progress of technology has enabled companies to innovate. Before the global pandemic, people were mostly office bound. Working from home was a remote idea. At present, technology has helped companies and individuals adapt to a hybrid working model. This innovation has further redefined norms. For example, before the pandemic, corporate networks are mostly heavy on LAN and light on WAN usage. Post pandemic, corporate networks are heavy on WAN and light on LAN usage.
Another area of innovation is Software-as-a-Service model. Traditional on-premises applications simply couldn’t scale as quickly and is physically constrained by available resources. The SaaS model has helped companies improve agility and time to market tremendously.
5. What’s something many people may not know about you?
I am an ambivert. I enjoy a good conversation and love my personal alone time.
